Check the live forecast above before heading into Zion National Park. The park’s high-desert climate means big temperature swings between day and night, and sudden afternoon thunderstorms can turn dry washes into dangerous flash floods.
What is the best time to visit Zion National Park?
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) offer the most comfortable conditions, with daytime highs ranging from 15°C to 25°C. Summer temperatures often exceed 35°C, while winter brings chilly nights and occasional snow at higher elevations. For a month-by-month breakdown, see our Canada weather hub for comparison with Canadian parks.
What weather hazards should I watch for?
Flash floods are the biggest danger, especially in narrow canyons like The Narrows. Thunderstorms develop quickly from July to September. Check the weather warning page for alerts. Winter ice and snow can close trails, and summer heat demands plenty of water. Radar imagery (available on the live forecast above) helps track incoming storms.
Does it snow in Zion National Park?
Yes, especially at higher elevations. Snowfall is light in the canyon floor but can accumulate above 1,800 metres. December through February see occasional snow, with daytime highs around 10°C and overnight lows below freezing.
How hot does it get in summer?
July and August often reach 38°C or higher in the canyon. The dry heat feels intense, and afternoon thunderstorms bring brief cooling but also lightning. Start hikes early, carry at least one litre of water per hour, and watch for heat exhaustion.
What is the weather in Zion in December?
December brings cool days (highs near 10°C) and cold nights (lows around -2°C). Snow is possible but rarely heavy on the main trails. The Vancouver Weather page shows a very different winter climate for comparison.
