What data does MSN Weather collect?
The service gathers your device’s approximate location to provide local forecasts, as shown in the live forecast above. It may also collect search history, browsing activity, and usage patterns to improve recommendations and ads. Microsoft shares aggregated, anonymized data with partners but does not sell your personal information.
How to adjust your MSN Weather privacy settings
On the MSN Weather website or app, go to your Microsoft account dashboard. Under “Privacy & security,” you can turn off location access, clear search history, and opt out of personalized ads. Changes sync across devices signed into the same account.
Does MSN Weather share my location with third parties?
Microsoft shares anonymized, aggregate location data with its weather data providers (such as The Weather Network or Environment Canada) but does not sell your exact location to advertisers. You can disable location sharing anytime.
Can I use MSN Weather without giving location permission?
Yes. You can manually enter a city like Toronto or Calgary to get forecasts without allowing continuous location tracking. Some features, like “current location” alerts, will be unavailable.
How do I delete my MSN Weather search history?
Sign in to your Microsoft account, select “Privacy & security,” then “Search history.” Click “Clear activity” to remove past weather searches. This does not affect your live forecast above.
