A weather net is the sprawling network of observation stations, radar sites, satellite feeds, and computer models that Environment and Climate Change Canada runs to track conditions from the Pacific coast to the Atlantic, feeding the live forecast above and every alert on this page.

How does Canada’s weather net actually work?

The national weather net relies on more than 2,500 automated stations that log temperature, wind, and precipitation every hour, plus 33 Doppler radar sites scanning the sky for storms. Meteorologists combine that ground data with satellite imagery and run it through supercomputer models to produce the 14-day outlook you see on the weather network 7 days forecast. The weather network app taps directly into this same data stream, so the map on your phone and the official warnings come from the same source.

What parts of the weather net matter most for travellers?

For anyone driving the Trans-Canada or flying between provinces, the weather network radar is the quickest way to see rain or snow moving in. The weather network map layers radar over highways and towns, letting you check conditions at a glance. The weather network canada hub pulls together regional data for every province — whether you need the 14 days the weather network shows for Edmonton or the daily highs for downtown Toronto, the net is built to give you useful, local detail.

Is the weather net the same as The Weather Network?

No. The weather net refers to the government-owned observation and modelling system run by Environment Canada. The Weather Network is a private broadcaster that packages that data into forecasts, radar loops, and the weather network app.

How often is the weather net updated?

Surface station data refreshes hourly at most sites. Radar updates every 10 minutes during active weather. Forecast models run two to four times daily, so the live forecast above may shift between updates.

Can I access raw weather net data?

Yes. Environment Canada publishes most station and radar data freely through its Datamart portal. Third-party apps and the weather network canada site repackage that raw data into the maps and 7-day tables you see.

For your region’s detailed conditions, check the Canada weather hub or drill into Vancouver Weather and Ottawa Weather. If severe storms are in the mix, the Weather Warning page lists active alerts from the national net.
