Check the live forecast above for current conditions across Ecuador, but plan for the country’s famously varied microclimates: the Andes bring cool highs, the coast stays warm and humid, and the Amazon basin is hot and rainy year-round.

What are Ecuador’s main climate zones?

Ecuador’s weather is driven by altitude and geography, not seasons. The Pacific coast, including Guayaquil, is hot and humid with a rainy season from January to April. The Andes (Quito at 2,850 m) offer spring-like temperatures year-round, while the Amazon lowlands are consistently warm and wet. The Galápagos Islands have a cooler dry season from June to December and a warmer wet season the rest of the year.

When is the best time to travel?

For Quito and the highlands, June through September brings clearer skies and less rain — ideal for hiking. The coast and Galápagos are most pleasant during the dry months (June–November). If you’re interested in Ecuador weather by month, note that November marks the transition to the wet season on the coast, while the Andes stay relatively mild. For Ecuador weather year round, expect little temperature variation but big swings in rainfall depending on where you are.

Does Ecuador have four seasons?

No. Because of its equatorial location, Ecuador experiences wet and dry seasons rather than temperature-based seasons. The highlands have a mild spring-like climate all year; the coast and Amazon see distinct rainy and dry periods.

What is the weather like in the Galápagos?

The Galápagos have two main seasons: the cool, dry garúa season (June–December) with cooler waters and more sun, and the warm, wet season (January–May) with warmer seas and occasional heavy rain. Water temperatures vary from 18 °C to 26 °C.

Is it cold in Quito?

Quito has spring-like highs of 18–20 °C but chilly nights around 8–10 °C due to its 2,850 m altitude. Pack layers — a sweater or jacket is essential for evenings, especially during the June–September dry season.
