If you own the copyright to an image, article, or other material and believe it appears on BuzzLayer without your permission, this page explains how to request its removal. We respect creators’ rights and are committed to resolving claims promptly. Please read the steps below before contacting us.
How do I report a copyright issue?
Send a written takedown notice to our copyright agent at copyright@buzzlayer.org. Your notice must include specific details to help us identify and verify the material.
To process your request quickly, please include: a description of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed; the exact URL or location on BuzzLayer where the material appears; your full name, address, phone number and email address; a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent or the law; a declaration, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act on the owner’s behalf; and your physical or electronic signature. We comply with the Copyright Act (Canada) and, where applicable, the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act. We aim to respond within two business days of receiving a complete notice.
How does BuzzLayer handle image rights and third-party content?
We source images from licensed libraries, commissioned photographers, and fair-dealing exceptions. All images are attributed where required by the licence or by industry best practice.
We do not knowingly publish unlicensed material. If you believe an image, graphic, or other visual work belongs to you and was used without proper credit or permission, our takedown process applies. Our editorial team reviews each claim and either removes the content, adds or corrects attribution, or provides evidence of lawful use. BuzzLayer also respects the moral rights of creators and will correct or remove material that misrepresents the source or context.
How this works in practice
A freelance photographer notices their photo in a BuzzLayer article about Canadian tech startups. They email copyright@buzzlayer.org with the article URL, their original image file, and a statement of ownership. Our editorial team, led by Editor-in-Chief Alex Nguyen, investigates. If the image was used without a licence, we remove it within 48 hours, issue a correction note on the article, and contact the photographer directly. If the image was properly licensed, we reply with the source details and licence information. The entire process is documented and reviewed by our Standards & Fact-Checking Lead Priya Sharma.
Who oversees copyright and takedown decisions?

Every request is logged and reviewed by at least two members of the editorial leadership team.
